The inadvertent expat blogger behind Ivna Retov Lurx

Hi there, I'm Sofia
I’m a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Porto, Portugal.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Portugal wasn’t part of the long-term plan. Like many expatriate relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far larger.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, routines, and expectations. Daily tasks seemed more tangled than they ought to be.
The Transition Phase
There was culture shock, unease, and plenty of hands-on learning. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began establishing something that felt steady.
Why I Created Ivna Retov Lurx
Most online resources were either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was lacking was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Portugal.
What This Site Does (And Does Not)
This site is:
- Practical experience gained from living in Portugal
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated when something truly changes
This site is NOT:
- A resource for tourism authorities
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- A generic travel blog
Looking Forward
Our time in Portugal continues, and the learning process goes on as well. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in Porto or anywhere in Portugal, please feel free to get in touch.
Best regards,
Sofia
